From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Saturday, 7 October, 1939 The British Expeditionary Force has been completely transported to mainland France, without feared losses from German U-boats. The BEF amounts to 161,000 men, 24,000 vehicles, and 140,000 tons of supplies. Chinese forces celebrate a victory near Changsha, in the Hunan province. With over 30,000 Japanese casualties reported, it is called "the biggest single Chinese victory in the war." References: C.Argyle, _Chronology of World War II_ J.
