From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Tuesday, 10 October, 1939 The USSR and Lithuania conclude a mutual assistance pact, similar to previous agreements signed with Estonia and Latvia. Lithuania gains the area around Vilna, in the Soviet zone of Poland. The Soviets begin massing troops near Finland; as many as 700,000 are reported. Finland begins voluntary evacuation of Helsinki, and blackouts are ordered. Reservists are called up, as well.
