From: munnari!csc.anu.oz.au!bxr307@uunet.uu.net In a recent article in the magazine "Wheels and Tracks" which is an English publication devoted to military vehicle preservation there was a large section devoted to the two Maus prototypes and their fates. In it the author also mentioned the vehicle preserved in Moscow. However he concluded that is a non-operational vehicle which was made up of the turret of one prototype on the hull of the other. This was because while pictures which showed the fate of the two vehicles had the hull of one destroyed (the one that was destroyed by its crew had a picture showing its hull destroyed but its turret intact lying beside it on the ground) and the other the turret was damaged beyond repair (the picture [which was very poor quality] showed the hull relatively intact and the turret missing). The article is quite extensive in its research and traces the development and fates of the two prototypes very well. If anybody is interested I will send them a photocopy of it if they want it (and are willing to wait several weeks for mail from "downunder" :-)) Brian Ross |Snail mail:- B.Ross bxr307@csc.anu.oz | Sociology Dept.,R.S.S.S. | Australian National University bxr307@coombs.anu.oz | CANBERRA,A.C.T.,2601 | AUSTRALIA
