[net.auto] Good News For A Change???

shark@ihuxa.UUCP (Pete Inorio) (03/27/84)

Alright already, enough of the rip-offs ... I have a great idea!!
Why don't we tell each other about the good experiences we've had
with automotive repair places and then recommend them. Let's take
the business away from the jerks and give it to the Good Guys (and
Gals)! What do you think??

For anyone in the Naperville, IL area with a German car
(and some select Japanese makes), I highly recommend
German Auto Works on Washington in Naperville. It's a place
with 6-8 mechanics and does most any work that needs to be done.
The work performed is of highest quality and, if Ted (the chief)
doesn't feel your car is worth the price of repairs (and he is
very reasonable), he will tell you and not just rip you off.
Also, if there is a way to work around a problem as opposed to
replacing an expensive part, he will let you make the decision
which way you want to go.  Cash and checks are preferred;
MasterCard and Visa are OK but the bill will be increased by
four per cent since that's what it costs him.

The bottom line is the place is great.

Please don't fill the net with local news such as good guys. An alert
to a rip-off is of wide spread interest. This is not a yellow pages.

I've got an even better idea! Why don't we post things that are of
widespread (geographic) interest to net.auto. I'd love to know the best
auto repair shops in Boulder, CO, but I doubt that this is going to
interest anyone in east Palo Alto or up the North Shore from Chicago.

Seriously (no, wait, that WAS serious too), it would probably be of general
interest to start commenting on how to find reputable repair shops - what
to look for or look out for...

Alright! Good news...

A woman mechanic named Cindy (I forget her last name) works (worked?) at
Marlboro Subaru in Marlboro, MA. She is competent, smart and friendly. I
don't know if she is doing actual work at the dealer anymore (last time I
was in there she had been promoted to Assistant Service Manager). I think
she moonlights as a mechanic though since she basically just likes to work
on cars. If you live around there (I don't anymore) and have been frustrated
looking for an honest mechanic go over to Marlboro Subaru and see if Cindy
is still there. By the way she worked on my 80 Subaru (it ran like a top
the two times she adjusted the valves and did tuneups) and an 80 Skylark which
*FIVE* other mechanics (including two BUICK dealers) had failed to repair
properly (why didn't I take it to her in the first place?). She owns Subarus
and one or more BMWs and has fixed just about every kind of car on the road.

Come to think of it her last name was Erdle.
