From: raymond@io.ame.arizona.edu (Raymond Man) Something like 20 years ago I sae on TV the British Army's LOS walkie-talkie. Both parties had to be looking at the other through the binocular and IR (laser?) beam using the same optical path carried the message. Range was like several miles. Laser beams on a battle field is very common. Designators for guided missiles (eg. Hellfire) have been in use for ages. Since modern frequency conversion techniques allow a wide selection of wavelengths, absorption and scattering etc. can be minimized. Just call me `Man'. Uh-oh. I don't know. raymond@jupiter.ame.arizona.edu
