From: Michael Tighe <amdcad!mjt@mcnc.org> Before we start a Beretta 92F debate, this was posted in Rec.guns within the last week: : I called Beretta's USA plant in MD today and was connected to a Ralph Cole : (301) 283-2191. I asked about the 9mm Beretta 92F slide failures and this : is what he told me. : Of the 156,000+ units shipped to the US military so far (military model : designation M9), 5 have experienced catastrophic problems during firing. : An investigation revealed that all 5 had been using very hot loads, more : than was recommended by Beretta. The General Services Admin. has required : that Beretta retrofit all M9 units with a "slide catch device" to prevent : the slide from striking the shooter in the face should it fail in the : future. : This was done because the military cannot always guarantee that it will : only use the proper ammunition in the gun. Mr. Cole said Beretta has no : plans to change the civilian 92F, and has no concerns about liability : problems, because they feel the entire problem is a result of improper : ammunition. ------------- Michael Tighe Internet: mjt@ncsc.org
