From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Wednesday, 25 October, 1939 The capture of the City of Flint prompts new debate over US neutrality and trade with belligerents. A demand is sent to Moscow for the ships release. Reports now indicate that the City of Flint was captured by either the light cruiser Emden or the pocket battleship Deutschland. One Greek and five British freighters are sunk today. Germany dispatches 3 U-boats to the Mediterranean, but only the U-26 arrives, and has no success. The Finnish delegation leaves Moscow, with no resolution of the Soviet demands. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@cbnews.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "As far as Germany's relations with America is concerned, there is no possibility of any difference ever arising between the two countries. On the contrary, Germany is precisely the country among all others which has faithfully observed and respected the Monroe Doctrine." - German Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop
