There's a fascinating book available about the use of tunnel complexes by the Viet Cong, and about the "Tunnel Rats" - special units used by the American Forces who actually went down these tunnel systems to try anf flush their inhabitants out - blanket bombing, smoke and other such remedies having proved ineffective. The title of the book is: "The Tunnels of Cu Chi" I don't have the author's name or publication details to hand at the moment. (In the UK you can pick the book up in remainder bookshops.)
