From: "Clifford Johnson" <GA.CJJ@Forsythe.Stanford.EDU> The Phase I deployment of the SDI still envisages, as its key component, Spaced Based Interceptors (Kinetic Energy Weapons) that would destroy Soviet missiles in their boost phase. The command to strike would come from a Boost Surveillance and Tracking System, without human intervention. (It would be "switched on" in advance of an attack.) This month's Air Force Magazine gives an update on SDI plans. Actual Phase I deployment decisions are expected in the mid-1990s. To: MILITARY@ATT.ATT.COM
