From: tanner@dssmv0.mpr.ca (Tim Tanner) With all the discussion on the A-10/A-16 and Close Air Support (CAS), and the recent cut backs in low-level training missions in Germany, I suddenly realized that all this talk is from one direction. The air. What about the ground? How do armies train thier infantry with SAM missiles? Is the air defense section of the army trained in CAS fighters tactics? Do they train with live ammunition? How do they simulate SAM missiles during exercises? If the stinger is the man portable SAM for the US army, what are other SAM units, mechanized or man-portable, are used by the US, British, German, Russian, etc, forces?
