[net.auto] What in the #@*& is destination charge?

dwv@ihuxu.UUCP (D. W. Vollman) (04/05/84)

I have a question about destination charge that is tacked on every
new car. Why does the Honda Prelude (shipped from Japan) only have
a $174 Dest charge while most GM cars (shipped from Detroit) have
a $400 Dest. charge? (probably not including Dealer Prep, but we have been
through this one). Is GM trying to pull a fast one or what?

I think the destination charge is just another way to make money. The
Toyota's I've looked at in the last three months don't have it.

I dont know what a destination charge involves, but this
question reminded me of a Honda dealer in Denver who tried
to charge my roommate an import fee on a used car!
