From: Aarron Gull <aarron@cs.city.ac.uk> Does anyone know the official (or unofficial) USAF/N tatics which would be employed under the following circumstances ? (1) A number of aircraft are on a strike mission when they detect, via their radar warning receivers (RWRs), enemy radar emissions (High-lark for example) to the rear. No visuals, however, are obtained. Do the aircraft change course to counter the supposed threat ? (2) Suddenly RWRs indicate that an enemy has locked onto the aircraft. Do they: (i) Ignore the threat, but keep an eye out for incoming missiles ? or (ii) Change course to search for the supposed threat with radar ? or (iii) Assume that missiles are in the air and take evasive action, throwing out chaff to try to break the lock-on ? I'm assuming that most RWRs can detect the general bearing/altitude of incoming radar, but not the range. I don't know if infra-red detectors will be any better. Aarron
