The League of Nations urges the USSR to cease hostilities in Finland
and accept mediation of the dispute within 24 hours. Little hope is held
for Soviet compliance.

Finland is negotiation with the United States for the purchase of
gas masks for its civilian populace, and has ordered 1000 masks for
horses.

Helsinki admits that Soviet troops have penetrated 40 to 60 miles at some
places, but claims numerous victories. In today's fighting, they claim
4 companies of Soviet infantry annihilated in counterattacks, and 7 tanks
destroyed, bringing the total losses of Russian armor to over 100.

The British Admiralty announces that four ships bound for Britain
have disappeared off teh Cape of Good Hope, and expresses concern
that they may have been lost to the raider Admiral Scheer.
