Near Suomussalmi, a battle of encirclement is being fought. The
Soviet 163rd Rifle division is surrounded by Finnish troops, while the
44th Mechanized division is cut off on a forest road while attempting
to aid the 163rd. Both divisions have been out of supply for several
days now.

France publishes a Yellow Book, their version of the origins of the war.

Joseph Stalin celebrates his birthday, and receives numerous letters
of congratulations, including one from Adolf Hitler, in addition to record
volumes in the Soviet press.

"Metal workers of Detroit, shipyard employees of Sydney, woman workers
of Shanhai textile factories, sailors at Marseilles, Egyptian fellaheen,
Indian peasants on the banks of the Ganges - all speak of Stalin with love.
He is the hope of the future for the workers and peasants of the world."
