In Britain, the tally of road accident deaths from September through
December (4130) is compared to those lives lost in military operations
in that same period (2511). Meanwhile, 15626 people have registered as
conscientious objectors.

Charles Edison, son of Thomas A. Edison, is appointed Secretary of the
U.S. Navy.

In a New Year's speech, Hitler call for further sacrifices from the German
people to win the "war of liberation" and bring about a "socialistic
millenium" in Europe. He promises that "the Jewish-capitalistic world will
not survive the twentieth century."

Goering promises severe air raids over Britain.
