I received a response from a Rick Bensene in regards to my article about engine serial numbers. Since I usually never have any luck mailing to persons on a long path I had to post this article. My apologies, but here goes. Rick must have misread my article because he flamed at me about something I never stated. He claims that said the 390 was brought out to compete with 396 when I actually said the 428 CJ was brought out to beat the 396, which indeed it did. The article I posted was meant to be informative, but I think he took it to be an attack on Chevrolet cars of the late sixties. I like the Camaros, it's just that I like Mustangs a whole lot better. I'm not saying that they are better, just that I prefer them. P Kelliher AT&T-ISL S. Plainfield, NJ

I like Fords too since I race a Sunbeam with a 289 HP in it so don't take this wrong but: What about the Camaro ZL-1 ???????? How did that stack up against the Mustangs? As I recall it was one Hell of a setup!! Just thought I'd ad fuel to the conversation! Keith Bauer White Tiger Racing

The ZL-1 Camaro was a real interesting car, since it was probably the car where options cost was at its greatest (at least as a percentage of base sticker price). In fact, in this case, the roughly $3000 ZL-1 engine option is actually greater than the base sticker of the car, or at least about the same. The all aluminum block was impressive-looking, to say the least! It also cost so much that very few were ever sold.
