From: Harry Bloomberg <HPB@vms.cis.pitt.edu> Trivia item from Aviation Week article about Computer-aided Acquisition and Logistics Support (CALS), a new DOD computer system that is designed to reduce paper flow: "The guided missile cruiser Vincennes goes to sea with 23.5 tons of paper. The ship would rise about 3.5 inches if all paper were removed, improving its performance at sea." Gee, maybe we could convince Gorbachev that the way to reform the Soviet military is to adopt current Western procurement practices :=).
