[sci.military] Information wanted: USAAF Gyroscope

From: scameron@blake.acs.washington.edu (Scott Cameron)

One of my instructors last week brought in an old gyroscopic autopilot
as a demonstration (or more properly, a display, since it wasn't operating).

I'm interested in any information readers might have as to the type of aircraft
it is from, its age, how it was connected to the flight control system, and
any other useful/interesting data.

The device is an about-10-inch square box with a hemispherical cover. There
are two manufacturer's data plates on the side.

The first describes it as a "United States Army Air Force" (so its Pre-50s)
"Series C1 Autopilot, Type G-1004-A. Serial # AF45-H9438, Spec# C24825,
Ord # W33-038AC-6609"
The manufacturer is listed as Honeywell in Minneapolis.

The second data plate is smaller and says simply "Type G1021B303, 26VDC"

If you can offer any info about this device, please reply via email.
Thanks in advance....
