The Soviet forces in Karelia break through the final zone of the Mannerheim
line and press toward Viipuri.

The French government acts to curb inflation, implementing measures
including a price freeze, more severe food rationing, gas rationing,
and female labor.

British aviators fly reconnaissance missions over Berlin, Hamburg,
Kiel, and Cuxhaven.

British Minister of Food William S. Morrison announces that, in order
to preserve cereal grains for animal feed, production of hard liquors
will be limited to one third the current level.  Sugar for beer brewing
will be cut to 70% of the current amount.
