From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Wednesday, 6 March, 1940 A Finnish delegation headed by Juho Paasikiva arrives in Moscow for peace negotiations. The Allies still promise military aid, but with no immediate prospect of help, General Mannerheim and the Finnish government agree that the situation is impossible. Scattered fighting continues in Finland, mostly near Viipuri, where Finnish counterattacks attempt to drive Soviet troops back across Viipuri Bay. The Royal Navy seizes another seven Italian colliers, and begins unloading their cargoes at the contraband control center of the Downs. Italian sources, however, indicate that Rome is confident that the British will move to reconcile their dispute. The British Wool Control Board states that in the past four months enough wool has been used to knit clothing for an army of 5 million, and warns the British women against "knitting the country into a wool shortage." -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@cbnews.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "What I am anxious about is what is going to happen in the future.
