If the situation there became a military one, how much resistance could Lithuania put up against the USSR? Note that I am /* End of text from uxa.cso.uiuc.edu:sci.military */ Actually, the USSR has based a significant number of its Strategic Rocket Forces in Western Lithuania. I believe these are mainly SS-18's and perhaps some SS-24's? (Dont quote me on numbers!) I'm sure there is no doubt as to who is in control at the SRF bases as well as the surrounding country. However, were Lithuania to leave the Republic (read as "were Hell to freeze over" :-) there would be problems with the USSR withdrawing its missiles, perhaps basing them somewhere else whatnot. Of course, they may select to remove those missiles in Lith. under their obligations to the START treaty, but we won't know about that until the summer, right?
