I would recommend that if nothing else, you buy the April issue of Consumer
Reports magazine (which is entirely about 1984 cars, domestic and foreign).
If you can't find it at a magazine stand, go to your local library. It will
tell you almost ALL you need to know about the latest cars': crashworthiness,
price, options, dimensions, good and bad points, how to bargain with dealers,
how to sell your car, etc. Read it from cover to cover! You'll probably make
a better decision than if you didn't read it. After all, when you're talking
in the range of $7K-$20K dollars, you should make sure you are getting THE
best for your money!
Good luck.

In addition to the April Consumer Reports, I recomend "Insiders Guide
to Buying Your Next Car", Peguin 1980, by Sutton (?)

The Consumer Reports auto buying guide can certainly provide food for thought and help making a more intelligent decision. However, the recommendations have to be approached with a certain caution. For example, in 1981 when we needed a new small car, the Chevrolet Chevette was one of their few recommendations (indicated by the car's name in red type as opposed to black). Imagine how I felt last year, when the 1981 Chevette was listed among the "Used Cars to Avoid". - Greg Paley
