Gateway Tech, '84, the annual national tech session for all the
'wrenches' of BMWCCA.
Well, folks, the 325e is here! I have seen it, and it is good.
Take your 318i, rip out the four-banger, the rear drums, the stock
seats, etc. Stuff in a 2.7 liter high-torque engine from the
528e, a pair of seats with enough adjustments to keep you
entertained for a week, an on-board computer that does everything
but run emacs, four-wheel disk brakes, and so on, and so forth....
The price? $30k? no! $27k? no! $24k? no! The price on the *bottom*
of the sticker was $21.7k !!! They actually wised up and priced
it to compete! And the BBE price list quotes a european delivery
price of about $17k !!! Wonder what Leo Franchi or Ray Korman
would charge for a stage-2 engine? (answer: if you have to ask...
-sigh- ) Anybody want to buy a '77 320i ???
Kent Porter had a *beautiful* 3.0 CS to show off his restoration
talents. And if his aircraft-aluminum stress bars were any lighter,
they'd float away! He gave an extremely interesting series
of talks on restoration. "Here I am chopping wood to get to the
shop after lightning hit the utility pole..."
Ray Korman was there with his twin-turboed 633CSi. He showed
a tape of his first-in-class win at Datona(sp). Seems the
officials are trying to promote the econoboxes, so they get to
run spoilers, while Ray's 320 got stuck with a 30% increase
in minimum weight. No problem!
And of course there were the panel discussions. Prestone was
declared ok, methenol was declared a brew of the devil,
and noone cared to discuss the highly controversial silicon
brake fluid.

Considering that we are now getting articles about detroit
pick-up trucks (!?), I am forced to vote for net.auto.sport.
The V-8 garbage is bad enough, but pick-ups?
