From: att!ihuxz!rats Is there any book describing the history of military night vision gear from the earliest near-IR viewers through GEN II image intensifiers with pictures of various experimental domestic and foreign technology imaging tubes? I have never seen a picture of a Soviet IR imaging tube. It seems as though the only historical data availible is from various trade journals and some electron-device physics books. Understandably, this stuff was a definite secret as it was developed in the early 1960s, but there is no secret save for manufacturing processes with which to construct image tubes. This seems to be a long lost area of contemporary military technology that begs for expounding.
