From: "Stephen D. Grant" <miles@ms.uky.edu> Hi. I lived in Pensacola for some time and still visit there quite often. My step-father was also a Student Instructor in T-34 trainers for the Navy. Anyway, the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola is quite interesting to see, even if it isnt the Superdome of museums. It has numerous planes, both inside and out. Many of the makes and models I can't remember, but here's some things I CAN remember: F4 Phantom (Static outside) F-18 Hornet (Inside) One of the Apollo Capsules (Inside) F-4 Cockpit Trainer (Inside) Several walk thru exhibits about engines, weaponry, carrier warfare etc. Several Helicopters including some Bell trainers & Jet Rangers A Sea King, or other Larger Helicopters There is of course more to this list, its just that I can never remember! There are probably more aircraft outside than inside, and the majority that are outside are vintage, older or out of service. Humm.. seems to me they have one of the old Blue Angels A-4 Skyhawks too. Last time I was there, there was a mock up architects model and description of the extension taht will be built onto the Museum. I don't remember when this was meant to start or whether it will interfere with the hours of the museum. This new addition will supposedly give more interior space to display items and have a huge vaulted ceiling in order to hang aircraft (a la Dayton and the Smithsonian). Lastly, parking is free and there is your gift shop and snack bar inside the museum for you shoppers and munchers. There is also a small bookshop with a number of interesting naval science and aviation books. If anyone needs any further info, or descriptions of how to get there or that sort of thing, feel free to drop me a line via e-mail. Don't forget to check your 6!
