[net.auto] net.auto.sport, a serious proposal

roger@felix.UUCP (04/06/84)

A few days ago, I half-jokingly proposed 'net.auto.sport' to
take the discussion of the more fun aspects of motoring into
another group. I think that net.auto.sport is a good name for
the group, rather than net.rec.sport (which is more than a little
ambiguous), or even net.rec.auto or net.sport.auto. net.auto.sport
is a logical name, as it envisioned as a subset of all possible
net.auto topics. The response so far has been suprisingly vocal
(in favor) and large (9 responses), considering I only casually
mentioned the new group in response to someone else's proposal
for a BMW news group.

The charter of this new group would be to provide a forum for
the discussion of sports cars, exotic cars racing, rallying,
etc., including, perhaps, high-tech news from around the globe
(but not a high-tech fix for a cracked exhaust). Also, discussions
about traffic laws, car ads, problems, etc. should remain in
net.auto. I myself subscribe to several automotive periodicals,
including as AutoWeek and Road & Track, both of which provide excellent
source material for new car info, etc.

Well troops, lets hear from you. I will post the results of this
survey in a couple of weeks, both here and in net.newsgroup.

felix!roger has suggested the creation of net.auto.sport,
but I don't think his article appeared in net.news.group.

As I understand it, net.auto.sport would be similar to net.auto,
but would emphasize sports cars and is not intended for car ads.
He is NOT suggesting net.sport.auto, which could treat
auto and maybe motorcycle racing of all types (road, stock car,
sprint, drag, etc racing).

I don't think we need net.auto.sport. I have seen very few
articles that naturally fit into net.auto.sport. All I recall
are a couple of Ferrari GTO articles in net.auto.
If the BMW owners, for example, want such a group they should
start their discussions in net.auto and see how much
traffic is generated.

Don't think I hate sports cars - I subscribe to R&T also.

As far as net.sport.auto, I have seen very few auto-sports
related articles recently, so there is little support for
it now also.
