My wife and I made our choice the other day. We decided to get a 4-door sedan Deluxe 5-speed manual front-wheel drive 1984 Toyota Corolla! All three cars were very good in the eyes of those who sent us letters. In fact, there was not one negative comment on any of these! Given the recommendations, there were some other deciding factors. First, I was able to fit in the Corolla without my leg rubbing against the steering wheel when braking. This was very important to me. Second, the price difference between the Corolla and either the Accord or Camry was roughly in the $1500 to $2000 price range given the models we were looking at and the options we wanted. We are going to use the extra money to start an IRA this year! Third, the trunk room of the Corolla sedan was adequate. If you recall, we wanted the Corolla 5-door liftback. However, that was because the sedan trunk looked too small for our needs. We saw a 1984 Corolla Deluxe sedan just before our decision and were happy with the trunk size. Further the deluxe sedan is $250-$400 cheaper than the deluxe liftback. Fourth, the Corolla seemed more than adequate for our needs for the next 3 or 4 years. The way we ranked them: 1. Corolla 2. Camry 3. Accord (I already have a 1980 Honda Accord LX hatchback. Although it has been quite reliable and has been a good deal for the 82,000 miles so far, it did develop surface rust to the extent that I had to sand down all spots (all 40 of them) and repaint the car. Also, the rotors were soft and easily grazed. These two problems tended to make me more favorable to looking at other models and makes.) A compilation of the letters I received follows this article.
