Subsequent to the release in recent Aviation magazines the
first photos of the Northrop YF-23, I endeavoured to make an in-
depth analysis of it's design heritage. Investegations into old
design proposals, analysis of trends in stealth technology, all
were taken into account. The biases of the Northrop designers,
of the McDonell Douglas crew, all taken into account.

My conclusion is therefore somewhat of a suprise; that the
YF-23 was not 'designed' in the proper sense, but instead was somewhat
of an accident. Yes, the F-23 was the result of an illicit and unsuspected
midnight liasion (doubtless at some USAF hangar with insufficient night
security / observation) between the YF-17 [Northrop P-630] prototype, and
a SR-71, most probably one of the A-12 variants (the 'Drone Motherships',
hence likely the plane that carried the baby YF-23 ... ).

Yes, those chines, the massive podded engines, the underbelly that
we know so well, mated with the upper fuselage and general configuration of
the F-17. It is truly a sight to behold.

8-)

(In case you can't tell, I like the F-22 more from what I've seen 8-)
