The list(s) of US forces gathering in the middle east that have
been posted here are interestingly complete. However...

The Eisenhower CVN-69 was scheduled to be relieved in the Med
by the America CVN-66 on or around 27 August. Anyone know the
location/status of the America? (I'm a reservist, and I was disappointed/
relieved to learn that my application for AT aborad the Ike (23Aug-8Sep)
had been denied... but maybe I'll get aboard soon some other way.)

I was down at the Norfolk Naval Base on August 12, and the America
was there, along with the Kennedy and the Washington. I think the Kennedy
was getting ready to go out. However, as I recall, 66 was the Washington,
not the America. I think the USS America was 71. Whenever I get my slides
developed, I'll know for sure. :-)

[mod.note: USS America is CVA-66 (non-nuclear). Eisenhower is CVN-69.
CVN-71 is the Theodore Roosevelt. - Bill ]
