[] I once read a summary of the manufacturers of various parts on Formula 1 cars. There was variety in every single catagory, except one: brake pads. Every team on the circuit (this was early last year, I believe) used Ferodo brake pads. Is it possible that in the area of racing brake pads, one company does it exactly right, and no one else even bothers to compete? Knowing the way tire companies compete for F1 customers, I was suprised that there seemed to be no similar activity in the fast-moving (or stopping) world of brake pads. Also, I asked my local mechanic about them, and he gave me kind of a Neanderthal look, and said he'd never heard of them. Does Ferodo make passenger-car pads? What are they made of? What are the racing pads made of? Anyone know where to get them? Roger (... see you at the races ...) Webster ucbvax!trwrb!felix!roger

Ferodo, Repco and Velvet-touch come to mind right now for brake pads. I use the Ferodo DS-11 type pads for my Sunbeam race car. These are a metallic pad which require proper warm-up for maximum stopping power. Although they are metallic they don't rip up the rotors as some pad materials do. I have used Repco pads on the racecar but found they really tore up the rotors after only one race although the stopping power was great. The Ferodos are available mainly for foreign cras I believe and can be gotten at any good speed shop or race shop. If you really would like a supplie drop me a line. I don't know if they are really the best in the business but I know an awfully large part of the racing world uses their pads and my own experience with them leaves me going back for more.
