From: mitel!spock!grayt@uunet.UU.NET (Tom Gray) In an editorial on the stealth bomber the Toronto Globe & Mail quoted an article that it had printer in 1940. The quote was: A secret type of varnish which makes british ships invisible under the glare of searchlights has made it impossible for German anit-aircraft gunners to turn their fire on enemy raders attacking Berlin, air force officials said today. The british bombers ... were said to have been "completely invisible" when the full glare of the search light was turned upon them. Does anyone have any knowledge of such a practice which would be an early form of optical stealth? Was this just another piece of fiction designed to placate the British populace?
