I'm trying to obtain sources for detailed information on paint colors and
color schemes for modern american jet fighters (such as F-14/F-15/F-16,
etc.). I'm looking for information in general, and also how the schemes
have evolved over time. For instance, the F-14 was originally light gull
grey (FS 36440) all over, and now apparently is white and light ghost grey
(FS 36320?). As another example, the F-15 "ghost grey" camouflage scheme
is subtle enough that it really needs a diagram (rather than just photos).
Yet another example, early F-16 had a black nosecone. When did they switch
to grey? And which grey?

Since the colors all follow the federal standard for colors (FS 494a?), I
had expected that there would be information about what colors were to be
used on what aircraft. If there is, it's not easy to find! It also seems
that colors schemes from some aircraft (i.e. F-14) changes so much that a
"standard" is a moving target.

The manufacturers know how to paint these planes, so the information must be
around somewhere!

Thanks in advance,
