-- I've seen lots of these lately. Why can't they just stick with 0-60 to make the comparisons easier?! God knows there are enough variables in performance specs already. Au

:
I suspect the reason is that if 0-60 times were advertised,
we would see something like the following:
Joe Leadfoot tries to check 0-60 time against the ad and
hits something more solid than a raindrop.
Joe sues the advertiser for encouraging him to do something
illegal and stupid.
Joe wins the suit.(!)
Our court system has declared repeatedly that people are no longer
responsible for their own stupidity. For example, if you stick your
foot under the lawnmower, it is the fault of the mower manufacturer.
Therefore, I have to pay $20 more for a mower with a blade brake
clutch and a starter rope on the handle.
Maybe this should go in net.flame, but I am responding in my
inimitable style to an article in net.auto.
P.S. I believe there is a suit pending against a pistol manufacturer
for an accidental shooting.

The comment about the Rabbit having a shift point just above 50 is correct. My '79 has a shift mark at 51 mph (2nd -> 3rd) and 2nd is about the hottest gear on the car (25 -> 50 mph is fun!). Victor Lee -- St. Olaf College, Northfield MN -- ihnp4!stolaf!vtl
