From: henry@zoo.toronto.edu (Henry Spencer) Noticed an interesting item on re-reading the Sept 3 Aviation Week. In one of James Dunnigan's books, he observed that contrary to popular belief, generals are seldom enthusiastic about starting wars: only in wartime do incompetent generals get retired early, court-martialled, or shot. The attrition in the US command has already started. AvLeak reports that the deputy chief of staff for flying operations (a major general) at USAF Military Airlift Command HQ has been replaced since Desert Shield started, as has his counterpart at McGuire AFB in New Jersey (a major transit point). The USAF declines comment. -- "...the i860 is a wonderful source | Henry Spencer at U of Toronto Zoology of thesis topics." --Preston Briggs | henry@zoo.toronto.edu utzoo!henry
