NOVA aired an excellent episode last night (23 October) on channel 2 in
Boston. I know it will be aired by New Hampshire PBS (UNH Durham)
on Thursday night at 8pm, and channels 2 and 44 regularly
rebroadcast NOVA during the week. Those of you in other areas
check your local listings for your PBS outlet!

The episode is titled "Poisoned Winds of War". Interviews are
presented with American and Soviet chemical warfare experts as
well as several think-tank types. Army training exercises held
this past winter are shown, as well as a discussion of the
proliferation of chemical warfare agents into the third world, and
the impact of the spread of chemical weapons.

The history of chemical warfare agents and munitions is presented as
well as the recent use of these weapons by the Iraqi military
establishment both in Iraq (with footage and interviews of
survivors) and in Iran (with interviews of the UN investigators).
It also discusses the "chemical battlefield" and the problems of
         operating effectively in that environment.

Another of the segments in the program is a treatise on the
difficulties of disposal of chemical weapons should an agreement
on destruction be reached. This program also includes very recent
         video clips from Saudi Arabia.

As a former offensive chem-bio warfare troop, I highly recommend this
program. The producers kept their opinions to themselves and
simply present the facts as they found them (very unusual for
         NOVA).
