From: arthur@Eng.Sun.COM (Arthur Leung) > 1. What is the aircraft designated: E2C, used by > the Japanese 'Maritime Self-Defense Force' (their words, > not mine)...??? i believe the Japanese E2C is the Hawkeye - the same as operated by the United States Navy (and Isreal, Egypt, Saudi Arabia(?), and others). > 2. What is its use and mission? Land based? Possibly > carrier based? use and mission are consistent with its large radar and high rate data links: command, control, AEW. it can be operated from large deck carriers, though only the United States does this. everyone else runs them from land. Sidelight: what is the status of the carriers that Japan had considered building? in case i misremembered it, they are of the same class as the British ASW carriers operating both ASW helos and indigenous V/STOL aircraft. this is consistent with the role of "Maritime Self-Defense." > 3. Any reason they might have a Tek 'scope aboard?? analog radar? -- arthur
