From: Don Goldenfarb <F2E010%BARILVM.BITNET@VM1.gatech.edu> The Merkava Type-3 tank, one of the most sophysticated tanks in the world was launched yesterday in the Golan Heights. 6 generals painted the symbol of the Barak Division on the tank and OC North - General Yossi Peled launched one of them with a bottle of champagne. Other Generals who participated in the ceremony were :Uri Sagi, Israel Tal(Reserves), Amram Mitzna, Ilan Biran, Micha Ram, and others. The improvements on the Merkava Type 3 include: 3 reverse gears, better operational ability in extreme conditions, better maneuverability, an emergency exit, and better chances of rescue after a direct hit. "The Armored Corps and the Northern Command deeply thank the designers, the developers, and the builders of the tank, who have built the best tank and we know how to measure the thought placed into the program for this tank," said OC North - General Yossi Peled. General Peled also praised one of the main developers and planners of the tank, General Israel Tal (Res).
