Can someone explain the "V" defense that Iraq is supposedly set up in.
What are the pros and cons of this defense and how should it be attacked?

According FYEO's information from the Army's "How They Fight" Iraq's
defensive doctrine involves building triangular forts, 2km per side
and at 5km intervals, each occupied by a battalion. FYEO states, "A
division will put all of the infantry battalions of its mech or infantry
brigades on line, with tank, artillery, and SF units in reserve." A
triangular company fort, approximately 700m per side, is located at each
corner of the battalion fort. Each corner of the platoon fort has a squad
firing position with a 360 degree field of fire. The 2km forts, which
have walls up to 4m high, are protected by ditches and barbed wire.

Against Iran and its hordes of infantry, these forts were very effective.
However, "The 'footprint' of a single B-52 would easily cut such a fort
in half," FYEO says. Currently, such forts are arranged along the Kuwaiti-
Saudi border in a "pitchfork" position. In front of the Iraqi positions
are minefields spearated by anti-tank ditches.
