An Associated Press photo appeared in the newspaper today showing a Marine writing a letter home while aboard the USS Gunston Hall. I was stationed aboard the USS Gunston Hall(LSD 5) from 1969 to 1970. We decommissioned the ship and turned it over to the Argentine Navy to be used in Argentina as a floating drydock. I would like to know what this new USS Gunston Hall is and when and where was it commissioned? Also, does anyone know the status of the old USS Gunston Hall?
