[sci.military] sources for uniforms request

trwagner@bronze.ucs.indiana.edu (theodore wagner) (11/27/90)

From: trwagner@bronze.ucs.indiana.edu (theodore wagner)

I am interested in where to buy military uniforms for a collection
I wish to begin. I am interested in both original and replicas of the
originals. I am mostly interested in U.S. Civil War uniforms.
Also, does anyone know who I might contact for Civil War groups
who do reenactments?

	Thanks in advance

I don't want to start a collection. I do want to get my hands on a
East German Army uniform. Anyone know where I can get one ?

MANION'S MILITARY AUCTION HOUSE in Kansas City is the place.
A friend of mine and I both buy and sell military-abilia through
them. He is the subscriber-member. There's a issue monthly on
what's up for bid. You respond by mail or FAX on the lot numbers
you're after. The categories of the catalog are: edged weapons,
uniforms, mil. hardware(canteens, binocs, compasses, foot lockers,
ammo box, practice shell, etc.) insignias, collar devices,
shoulder patches, medals & campaign ribbons, books(TM- and FM-
manuals, unit histories, war stories and accounts, WW2 Life
Magazines, Colliers, recruiting posters, etc.) , souvenirs
like sold at the PX or BX: desk pen sets, Zippo cigarette lighters
with unit insignias or ship engraved thereon..., pins, pillows.

All are surplus. It not a new issue outlet. I got my hardbound
copy of _The_Codebreakers_, the FM- field manuals on Improvised
munitions, boobytraps, incendearies, and silencers there!

To sell surplus goods with them, you corresond with them, describing
what you're selling... then forward it to them, naming your bid
price. They get some commission off your proceeds...
