On the M60 series tanks you pulled the power pack to change the oil.  
You could get to the oil drain plug on the engine, I think, through an 
acess plate, but if you did you wouldn't get all of the oil out, 
possibly; and you would definetly (sorry, I'm real bad on typos today)
get oil all over the bottom of the engine compartment.  Not a good idea.
Fire hazard.  I don't remember if you could get to the transmission oil
plug through an access plate, but the problem is the same.  They've been
doing oil analysis on the M60 series tanks for a long time.  Only change
the oil now when needed.  In fact, that;s true of most diesel engined vehicles
in the Army.
