From: bcstec!shuksan!major@uunet.UU.NET (Mike Schmitt) The following units have been ordered (or are enroute) to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield: 1st Armored Division (Ansbach, Germany) 3rd Armored Division (Frankfurt, Germany) 1st Infantry Division (Mech) (Fort Riley, KS) 1st Infantry Division (Forward) (Goeppingen, Germany) 2nd Armored Division (Forward) (Garlstadt, Germany) 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (Nurnburg, Germany) VII Corps Headquarters (Stuttgart, Germany) 2nd Corps Support Command (Nellingen, Germany) ----------------- Also ordered to active duty - the following National Guard combat units: 48th Inf Brigade (Mech) (Georgia), round-out for 24th Inf Div (Mech). 155th Arm Brigade (Mississippi), round-out for the 1st Cavalry Division. 256th Inf Brigade (Mech) (Louisiana), round-out for the 5th Inf Div (Mech). (the 5th ID has not yet been designated for deployment) This is the first call-up of reserve combat forces. Previously mobilized were Reserve and NG combat support and combat service support units. Plans call for the Guard Brigades to spend one month of training at Ft Irwin's National Training Center - before a decision is made on their deployment to Saudi Arabia.
