From: cga66@ihlpy.att.com (Patrick V Kauffold) The Joint Force Air Component Commander (JFACC) for Desert Shield is LtGen Charles Horner, USAF. He reports to Gen Schwarzkopf, USA, who is in overall command. There is something there called the "joint combat airspace control system" which coordinates planning and operations; presume this is some sort of C3 system. Horner is also the Commander, US Air Forces, CENTCOM (he reports to himself). Reporting to Horner are: * MajGen Royan Moore, Hr, USMC, Commanding General, 3rd Marine Air Wing (Moore works for LtGen Walter Boomer, USMC, Commander, US Marine Corps Forces, CENTCOM) Marine Corps air is part of I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), a Marine air-ground task force (MAGTF). * Naval Air, under RADM Philip Duffy, Commander, US Naval Forces, CENTCOM * Multinational Air Forces "LtGen Boomer makes available to General Schwarzkipf any excess sorties for reallocation or reapportionment by LtGen Horner as JFACC, again in close coordination with MajGen Moore. Similar coordination is effected with RADM Duffy, who commands the naval forces, for those sorties required for fleet air defense and for sorties that are available to contribute to the overall CENTCOM mission." Source of above: US Naval Institute Proceedings, December, 1990. Sounds like it came from some kind of press release. Doesn't say any- thing about how they coordinate Army air.
