That feature on your Porsche is for parking on the sides of streets; they are sort of German parking lights. Many other German cars sold in Europe have this feature, (I saw several when I was there) but perhaps it is disconnected for this market. Brian Donnelly

My GM-made '84 Corvette lights a white light to the side in the direction you signal, if the front lights are on. You say this is supposed to aid parallel parking at night? Seems pretty strange to me. I sort of thought they were supposed to help you see if a neighboring lane was clear when driving on dark freeways. I've never used them, in either case, and in fact I find them somewhat distracting. -- Rick Kiessig {decvax, ucbvax}!sun!idi!kiessig {akgua, allegra, amd70, cbosgd, harpo, ihnp4, ios, qubix}!idi!kiessig

So what's so new about CORNERING LIGHTS?????? They've been around for years. The first car I remember with them was my grandfather's 67 Cadillac. Our 69 Pontiac Bonneville also had them. They were not to aid in parking but to light the way when making a turn. Keith Bauer White Tiger Racing

I believe the Citroen DS19 and 21's (the same ones with the goofy hydraulic gizmos that change ride height) also have cornering lights -- of a different kind. The headlights turn with the steering wheel. Au

It seems that oncoming drivers had a hard time judging just exactly which direction the car was going...
