You sure about these designations? Normally the 'numbered' manuever
brigades are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd - there is no "4th" as such. The
'other' brigade-size elements are usually Aviation Brigade, Divarty, and
  Discom (no numbers).

> 1st Cavalry Division

1st Cav Div deployed with the 2nd Arm Div's 1st Brigade as it's third
brigade (1st Cav has two active brigades and the 155th Arm Bde, Mississippi
  NG - not yet deployed).

> 3rd Mechanized Infantry Division
> 3rd Brigade

Again, another double check. I have not heard of any of the 3rd Herd
from Wurzburg, Germany being deployed. Its 3rd Brigade, out of
Ashafenburg, Germany, was its weakest brigade. (But, I could be wrong).

> 24th Mechanized Infantry Division
> 197th Infantry Brigade

The 24th deployed with the the 197th Mech Brigade (Separate) as its 3rd
brigade (24th's third brigade is the 48th Inf Bde, Georgia NG - not yet
  deployed)

  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today's paper talked about a "Light Corps" and a "Heavy Corps":

  XVIII Airborne Corps [Light]
    82nd Airborne Div
   101st Airmobile Div
    24th Mech Div
     3rd Arm Cav Rgt
6th Division (French) [can anyone confirm that the French have an
entire division deployed? Armor? Mech? Light?]

   VII Corps [Heavy]
     1st Arm Div
     2nd Arm Div
     1st Mech Div
     2nd Arm Cav Rgt
1st Arm Div (British) [I knew the British 7th Arm Brigade (Desert Rats)
was deployed - have the British deployed an
                             entire Armor Division?]

   Marine Expeditionary Force
     1 Mar Div
     2 Mar Div

And absolutely no acknowledgement of non-US deployment, a number which
is around 250,000 according to CNN this morning. (Thought that high
myself but that was what they said). Regardless, the non-US componenet
is significant and may be critical since it gives numerical superiority
over the Iraquis.

Yep. The 4th Armoured Brigade (BAOR) deployed over the Christmas and
New Year period. Originally the Seventh Armoured was designated as
support for the M60's of the Marine Expeditionary force, but with
the arrival of the Fourth it was decided that it was most logical
to put them together as a complete division. I can't remember the
exact composition off hand, as all my references are at home, but
it has at least one regiment of Challenger I's (I think that this may
be the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards), a couple of lighter armoured
regiments, a regiment of field artillery and associated support.

The two brigades represent the total Challenger forces which
were deployed with BAOR. The only British armour in Germany
now are some ancient Chieftains and any Challengers which were
mired too deep in the workshops to be fixed in time to go to
the Gulf.

According to BBC news this lunchtime, both brigades are now
moving up to their forward battle positions.
