[net.auto] First impressions of new car stereo .....

Just had a Kenwood 7100 stereo/cassette installed in my new car.
VERY impressive! Only has 4W/channel @ <1% THD (I'll soon make
use of the 'preout' to add a separate amp) but the list of features
makes it well worth the slightly more than $300 price tag. In addition
to all the 'standard' features (Dolby, Separate bass & treble, metal,
power-off eject, auto-reverse, auto-load, etc.) it has a few other
features that were important to me:

18 FM presets and 6 AM
Preset scan to sample the preset stations
	Tape advance to next song
	Radio on during fast fwd/rew

I was told by many that Kenwood made quality equipment. I hope they were
right - so far it looks quite good.

I had a Kenwood in my car about a year ago. Worst radio/casette I
ever owned. After a year the fancy AUTO LOAD/AUTO REVERSE deck
broke down. It needed to be replaced at a cost of $70.00 to $80.00
then I was told that the drive motor was not part of the deck and
might go at any time.
Moral: The simpler the deck the lesser the problems, especially if
       you drive rough road.
