I have read authoritative sources that say 800 mm gun "Gustav" used
by German Army to batter Sevatopol was later renamed "Dora" to convince
the Allies that it was actually two different weapons. I have read other,
equally authoritative sources, that say it actually was two weapons.

Now I'm ready to hear from anyone who can produce sources for further
research. I would also like to know if anyone can justify having even
one behemoth such as "Gustav" in an arsenal.

Some years back, the shortest route to the cafeteria was thru the
ordnance museum, and they had a shell from Gustav there. The caption said
"used with great effect against the Russian forts at Sebastapol", I think
that was the place. Big port on the peninsula on the Northern coast of
the Black sea.

Every once and a while I would see some Navy Guys just looking at it.
The L/D of the shell was about 2, if my memory is correct.

You might write to The Ordnance Museum, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD
21005, for information.
