[sci.military] MINIMIZE

During emergencies, military communications are placed under a
condition called MINIMIZE. Under MINIMIZE commanders are required
to reduce routine COM traffic to that which is minimally
necessary to meet operational requirements. Routine messages
must include the phrase "MINIMIZE CONSIDERED" to show that the
releasing officer understands the situation.

In the last few weeks the traffic on sci.military has gone
through the roof, for obvious reasons. Bill, has been doing
yeoman duty to keep up with it, for which we are all highly
appreciative. Below find a graph showing the traffic increase.

While I am sure Bill is enjoying the challenge, this poor reader
has gone into information overload. I suggest that contributors
consider the following recommendations:

1. If you start to post a reply that begins,"Well, I don't really
know, but I would guess..." WAIT! Hold that thought a day or
two, to see if someone who does know will respond. If not,
   then go for it later.

2. Make your included quotes from previous articles as small as
   possible.

3. Authors of questions; request responders reply directly to you
and offer to synopsize responses. Then follow through.

4. Think before you post. Scan back through previous issues to
see if your question has already been answered. Don't think up
your questions/responses on the fly. Use your local library to
   answer any questions you can.

5. Keep it brief. I know, I'm the worst offender. But, that was
then and this is now. We all have to accommodate.
