From: "Alvin M. Chan" <CHAN93%SNYBUFVA.BITNET@CORNELLC.cit.cornell.edu> Besides the Patriot system, are any other air-defense systems being used by the Coalition forces? Such as the : Roland - all-weather, highly-mobile, short-range, radar-guided (with optical backup capability). Mounted on single vehicle (looks like an Oshkosh truck). 10 missles per truck. anti-aircraft(?) Hawk - medium range, low-med altitude defense coverage, effective in an ECM environment, IFF (identification friend or foe), optical tracking, radar aquisition and tracking, 3-4 launchers w/9-12 missles. large proximity fusing (needs only need to pass near the target to destroy it) Chaparral - short range, infrared homing, fire and forget, supersonic, IFF, 4 missles ready on rails, 8 in storage. RF directional doppler fuse. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Reference: Scanty info gleaned from "United States Army Weapon Systems 1986" D101.95:986 available from GAO publishing, or your local US Govt Docs depository. (I tried not to quote the info, but it was terse to start with) Since the info is from 1986, it's probably even older than that. _________________________________________________________________________ // Alvin M.
