[sci.military] Something old, something new....

Dave Emery and I were talking last night about the age of some
weapons systems being used in the Persian Gulf. For example, the US
Navy is using some (almost) 50 year old battleships, and some US
troops may still be carrying the M1911A1 .45 cal CAP. (We don't know
if all active duty units have switched to the 9mm, but remember that
there are some reserve units there.) So what old timers are still at
the party? And for variety what are the newest (production) systems
there. (JSTARS is still in development, so it doesn't count.)

Some more old timers to get you thinking...

     AIM-9L Sidewinder AA missile.
B-52 (When were the -G and -H versions first produced? And
             weren't some older airframes upgraded?)
F4G (Are these the only Phantoms there or are there also recon
             versions?)
     C-130 Cargo Planes.

And a few candidates for newest system:

     F-117A Stealth Fighter
     SLAM Ground Attack Missile
            Panvia Tornado
Al-Hussein missile (might as well let both sides play!)
